Project Challenges

The core challenge was designing an intuitive, lightning-fast video review experience to confirm whether a ball landed in or out of bounds. The review needed to complete in under 3 seconds with instant feedback, while ensuring video controls (zoom, replay, frame selection, speed changes) remained smooth, responsive, and free from UI freezes or main-thread blocking.

2Smooth video control performance

Ensure playback, scrubbing, and rapid replay never stuttered or paused. Video controls had to remain stable across repeated interactions.

3Targeted double-tap zoom accuracy

Support precise zoom levels triggered instantly by double tapping. Zoom needed to land on the intended area with consistent scaling.

4Two-finger zoom during replay

Allow pinch zoom while normal play or Rapid Replay was running. Interactions couldn’t interrupt playback or degrade responsiveness.

5Frame navigation under continuous replay

Update frames in real time using a wheel and slider while replay loops. Speed changes and frame jumps needed immediate visual updates.

6Handling undefined UX edge cases

Maintain usability in unidentified or unplanned user scenarios. The flow needed to stay predictable and resilient without breaking.

The Mobility Solution

We built a high-performance video review experience powered by Apple Vision and a custom Core ML model to track the ball and detect bounce points accurately. We optimized targeted zoom behavior (double-tap + pinch), created precise frame navigation (wheel + slider), and implemented a real-time processing pipeline that delivers smooth Rapid Replay, instant frame updates, and zero main-thread blocking—enabling line-call review in under 3 seconds.
